Speech and Language Therapy Testimonials
“My four year old daughter’s nursery noticed that my daughter had a some problems making certain sounds and suggested I needed a speech therapist. I made quite a few phone calls and once I had spoken to Penny I knew that she was the person I wanted to help my daughter with this sensitive issue. She is warm, empathetic and kind but above all she is incredibly thorough and helpful. Her process of working with young children is ideal as she plays clever games that disguise the speech work and makes it such fun that they look forward to their sessions with her! Within 3 months of seeing Penny once a week, my daughter’s speech issues had disappeared! I couldn’t believe how quickly and efficiently Penny had achieved results – nor could my daughter’s selective nursery (Highgate) school. I couldn’t recommend Penny more – the children love her and she achieves amazing results. We feel very lucky to have found her!”

“Our 3 year old has been seeing Pui-Lai for over a year. We were incredibly lucky to find Pui-Lai who with her speech and bilingualism expertise conducts the sessions in Cantonese and English. Our son has gone from next to no spoken words to sentences and questions in Cantonese and basic sentences in English. The progress was all owing to Pui-Lai:
– being able to convey her expertise simply and concisely so we get the most out of each session
– being well prepared for each session with a clear lesson plan in mind
– setting clear target areas to work in between each session
– tailoring her approach to our son’s preferences
– building an excellent rapport with our son who enjoys ‘playing’ with her
– taking a holistic view to helping our son including attention, turn taking, and understanding diet, habits, and even potty training progress.
– staying up to date with the latest research and tools to ensure her techniques are up to date
As an added bonus, we also had the pleasure of attending a Cantonese children’s playgroup which Pui-Lai runs with enthusiasm. This provides opportunities for a more relaxed social setting for our son to interact with other children and still engage in activities to help his speech and social skills.
We look forward to continuing our journey with Pui-Lai and watching our son progress.”

“Thanks so much Penny. We are so delighted with Rufus’s progress… when we began this process (before we met you) my only concern was that speech therapy might make him self-conscious and possibly less confident. I think it’s actually had the opposite effect and that is entirely due to you and the kind and enabling way you work. We will absolutely recommend you to others (just as we found you from a recommendation). … thank you so much for helping him, we really appreciate it!”

“After being on the waiting list for such a long time with the NHS, we found Penny who was highly recommended to us. She was really warm and caring and my daughter liked her straightaway. She wasn’t shy when she was assessed, which she is normally with strangers. Penny was really thorough and took the time explaining things to me that I didn’t understand before as a busy parent and gave me the confidence to use some of the techniques to work with my daughter’s language impairment. She has improved so much that I am no longer worried about her at school. If you are looking for an SLT, go with Penny.”

Private Consultation
“I came across Pui-Lai’s website after being at lost with some of the information given to me by friends, family and even health care professionals. I am an expectant mother, with my first child and wanted someone knowledgeable. I have done my research online but I still had many questions that I couldn’t find answers to. Pui-Lai took the time to answer all my questions and listen to my concerns. Highly recommend her discussions”

“We were recommended to have a discussion with Pui-Lai through a parent group on Facebook. We had two private telephone consultations during the lockdown period to address our bilingual difficulties and plan our bilingual journey with our second child on the way. Pui-Lai was extremely understanding and knowledgeable. She tailored the information to us and gave us realistic expectations and suggestions for our next steps. Her guidance is invaluable and we would suggest her without hesitation to anyone on their bilingual journey. I am sure we will be contacting her again in future for any language support.”

“The workshop was informative and at the same time really practical. The indepth knowledge that covered both bilingualism and speech and language development was extremely useful and my wife and I really feel like we are equipped with what to do next for our child. Pui-Lai is clearly passionate about the subject and it is not often that workshops are useful, delivered well and pitched correctly for parents in mind. I would definitely recommend this for any one, not just raising trying to raise a bilingual child but who are interested in the subject itself.”

“I’m really glad I found the workshops: it was great to meet Pui-Lai – it is clear that she is very qualified, knowledgeable and passionate around this subject. It was important that both my husband and I attended so that we could each understand and support our respective roles in our child’s language development. I found it most helpful to understand better what is achievable and not, so that you don’t get disappointed or put too much pressure on the family. I recommend this to any parents who are starting out on their journey or having a crisis of confidence.”

“Thanks to Pui-Lai for actually bringing some clarity to the confusing mix of advice out there! We’re mixed nationality and want our future family to be able to comfortably communicate with all their relatives as well as keep a foothold of their heritage and culture. The workshop was an eye opening intro to the facts behind multilingualism and what techniques parents can lean on when planning to raise their kids learning more than one language. We would recommend it to anyone who is interested in or needs support in raising a bilingual family. It’s delivered by someone who not only loves what she does but has used the techniques in raising her own kids.”
Languages: Romanian, German and English
“Your seminar was so useful and surpassed our expectation! We love the evidence-based approach and all the tips you’ve given us, both as a professional and a parent in similar situation. In fact, we have many friends who are multilingual couples and I would recommend you to all of them.”

“The workshop motivated us a lot to raise our daughter trilingual. It was very interesting to learn more about the strategies to successfully teach her learning three languages. It was also very helpful in setting the right expectations.”
Languages: German, Japanese and English
“It was great to have the opportunity to explore this topic from a very family focused personal perspective. I found it highly motivating to meet others who acknowledge minority language acquisition is not just going to happen, who seem to understand how important it is and how challenging it can be. Learning other families’ stories was fascinating.
Pui Lai’s delivery was pitched just right: the authority of someone with the facts and theory but the practicality and realism of someone there in the frontline living it! She created an atmosphere that was encouraging and authentic.
Overall, the workshop helped reignite my enthusiasm and help my husband and I regroup and revisit our family’s strategy with renewed fervour. I couldn’t help but think this was the start of something and I’m hoping for more similar workshops looking at next steps after the goal setting stage with more shared ideas and experiences.”

“We were very excited to have found Pui-Lai’s Bilingualism Workshop. We knew we wanted to expose our baby to our mother tongue languages, but were finding it hard to do so since English had become our primary language. The workshop was very encouraging and also helped us to set realistic expectations for our child. Equipped with some action items, we left feeling extremely motivated. The workshop was educational and also gave us the chance to meet with other parents with whom we could share our stories of struggles and successes. I would recommend this course to anyone looking for some support and encouragement in raising bilingual or multilingual children!”
Languages: Spanish, Mandarin and English
“We attended a bilingual workshop hosted by Pui Lai to see whether what we were doing was the correct method to go about teaching our children additional languages. The workshop was interactive and informative, plus as we came with our children, Pui Lai had help on hand to keep them entertained whilst the adults concentrated on the work shop. The workshop reassured us in what we knew and also gave us an in depth look into “bilingualism” as a whole.”
Languages: Hakka, Cantonese and English
“The workshop was great. It is good for us as parents to be prepared what are the common matters that would happen to a bilingual child. And also useful to know some of the approaches in introducing different languages to the child.”

“Your seminar was very insightful into bilingual and its different methods. We enjoyed the evidence-based approach and breakout sessions which helped us understand the methods we could apply in learning. I would recommend the seminar to anyone who wants to gain an understanding of becoming bilingual.”
“We found your workshop very helpful and it was enlightening to see that there were other families that had similar concerns in raising bilingual children. Shame we couldn’t have stayed longer to chat to other people. I thought the workshop was very informative. I personally would have loved to listen to more.”

“There’s a tremendous warmth when we come to each class and you really help to create this environment by allowing the children and (us!) socialise and meet others in the group. You have really reignited my enthusiasm in language learning and encouraged me to also do my homework! We did the baking session from class at home now and Emily knows all the ingredients in Chinese off by heart and even tells me what to do! My husband and I both learn a lot from your classes and appreciate all the hard work you put into each session. I can only sing praises about the classes!”

“Thank you for planning this playgroup. I’ve tried to run playgroups myself several times in Bethnal Green and now in St Albans but I can never commit to a schedule. Not only that, it is a lot of work and energy. I applaud you for this, all your efforts and all your time you give to each and every child. We’re always looking forward to the next one.”

“Zac loves the classes, especially the last session. The songs were great! He was even telling his Daddy about the science experiment with the tornado and how it sucks things up (when he saw the bath water going down the plug hole). Thank you for all you do”

” I just really wanted to thank you for your time that you dedicate to all of them. For my children especially, you help generate an interest in their mother tongue which is invaluable. Your style of teaching is very hard to come by. My kids love your classes and ask me when they will be going to see Pui-Lai Lo See!”

“We have been to so many playgroups and children’s classes right across London and I’ve never seen such dedication, enthusiasm in a teacher before! Each session is carefully planned out and Pui-Lai is really adept in getting both of my children speaking to her in Chinese that I didn’t think it was possible! My friend recommended me to come and it was worth being on the waiting list. I can’t recommend her classes enough. Thank you Pui-Lai!”

“The Cantokids group is such a wonderful group in London! My daughter has made new friends, sing Cantonese songs, and read and write new Chinese characters.
She also learns Cantonese through play, games and creative art works. It is an incredibly fun, lively and an amazing group to learn Cantonese.”
Winnie Choi
“Pui-Lai developed a unique, tailored and very fun method of introducing Cantonese to a small group of 5 year olds. The use of a variety of simple games and songs is particularly effective. Pui-Lai is patient, caring and always able to adapt her approach to interact with the each and every children appropriately. The small group and friendly environment really helped my daughter picked up Cantonese in a setting she enjoys. Thank you!”
