Bilingual Foundations (Part A) 19th May 2019

This is a 1 hour 30 minute workshop for parents/carers with children on Sunday 19th May 2019 at King’s Cross 10:15am-11:45am TBC.
This is Part A of two workshops (Part B is Bilingual Strategies). It is not necessary to attend both workshops, but it is recommended. If you can’t make both dates then please contact Pui-Lai to find out the dates of future workshops, or to arrange a private consultation.
What we will cover:
- Breakdown of bilingualism, the different types and how it applies to you and your family
- Dispelling common myths of bilingualism
- Benefits of bilingualism based on current scientific research and other research about raising a bilingual child, what does this mean and what we can do about it
- Common methods used to achieve bilingualism
- Goal setting – the modalities and what to think about
- Speech and Language Development and the importance of this in relation to bilingualism
- Foundations of Parent Child Interaction (PCI) and how to incorporate it into our busy every day lives

My qualifications and experience
As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (MSc UCL, HCPC, CertMRCSLT) with a special interest in multilingualism, my experience includes working with children for over 12 years (ages 0-18 years). I also have experience treating adults with acquired brain injury, mental health and learning disabilities for the last five years.
At home, I have raised a trilingual family – my husband speaks to our son exclusively in Mandarin, and I speak to our son in Cantonese and he responds fluently in both languages. His English – which he speaks to his school friends – is great and we have no concerns with his progress at school.
