The Buckinghamshire Chinese language School which is part of the Buckinghamshire Chinese Association and both were established in the High Wycombe area since 1990 by local restaurant owners for their children, over the years the profile of the students changed and now we have many international families with English as their home language as well as students with non Mandarin speakers at home therefore we teach Chinese as a second language.
The Buckinghamshire Chinese Language School is a community school which is entirely self-funding with no direct Government grant. All of the staff are volunteers and many with their own children studying the school.
The Buckinghamshire Chinese language school (BCLS) is led by Mrs Mai Sim Merry who had been the Head Teacher for since 2009 , when the school was re-established into the area after a break of 5 years due to Mrs Merry family commitment , previously she has also have been the Acting Head teacher in the Chinese School for many years. . Mrs Merry is a very experienced teacher, who is also teaching Mandarin Chinese in several main stream schools in the area. She has experience in all of the current Chinese examination system in UK as well as International examination of Youth Chinese Test (YCT) and HSK (Chinese proficiency test) .
All of our students are encouraged to enter the appropriate examinations when they are ready.
Mrs Merry leads a team of 5 other teachers to deliver Mandarin Chinese lesson on a Sunday in the Royal Grammar School site. (High Wycombe)
The lessons are conducted in both English and Mandarin Chinese in the Primary level and gradually with more spoken Mandarin in the class with English spoken as a supporting language.
All our students work towards National qualification of GCSE and A level and we have had great success with the exam of 100% pass rate and top grade passes.
BCLS is now a recognised Test Centre for HSK and YCT test since 2015 , our students undertake Youth Chinese Test annually in November from Level One class. We have 100 pass rate on all our candidates.
The learning material used in our school comes with online lessons (additional school annual subscription) to reinforce all four skills outside the classroom, this is particularly helpful for students with no Mandarin speakers at home.
Although this is a weekend school, all students are expected to show commitment in attendance and between class studies to achieve the desired result.
