On Saturday morning our school teaches the Dutch language and culture to children with a Dutch background who live in the London region. The school currently has around 100 pupils, aged four to fifteen, group 1 to 8 and group VO 1/2/3. Groups vary to a maximum of 16 students per group, under the guidance of experienced and qualified teachers and with the help of assistants. Our school is supervised by the Dutch government, which regularly inspects the school, and is accredited by the NOB foundation.
The goal of the school is to make the connection with education in the Netherlands as good as possible. To this end, the Cito pupil tracking system is used and in addition, methods are used that have been specially developed for children in whom Dutch is the second language. The aim is to teach with the latest teaching methods. In order for the education to be successful, as a guideline for primary education we have a minimum number of required hours of 120 hours per year, divided into 37 weeks of 3 hours, in which the homework is not included. Indispensable here is the commitment of the Dutch-speaking parent, both in terms of speaking Dutch with the child consistently, as well as providing guidance with homework.
