Ming Tak Chinese School is the leading Chinese language school serving Sutton and surrounding Surrey areas. We offer language classes in both Cantonese and Mandarin from beginners through to GCSE and AS levels. The starting age is from 5 years old and over on 1 September. Birthday after 1 September will only be considered for following academic year entry. Admission commences before early September for both new and existing students. Some students may be admitted in January, subject to the discretion of the admission officer / head teacher, on a case by case basis. See our entry requirements. We generally cater for all standards with mixed abilities and from different backgrounds. Ming Tak is an independent language school, founded in 1991. We are a private company limited by guarantee in England and Wales and a registered charity. Our Company House and Charity Commission numbers are 3007829 and 1043703 respectively. We are a non-profit-sharing, non-political and non-religious organisation. As a registered charitable organisation, we are administered by a Board of Governors. They work on an entirely voluntary basis. The daily duty of the school is largely helped by a dedicated group of Voluntary helpers, mostly come from parents of the Ming Tak students and who share the same value of the school. The school is staffed by dedicated paid teachers led by the Head-teacher. All teaching staff have received formal training. Many have had previous teaching experience. Some staff have been with the school over 10 years. The lower classes are aided by voluntary helpers and classroom assistants. Students will be fully supervised and monitored at break times. As far as practicable, all teachers and volunteers will comply with the UK DBS enhanced checked criteria. Additional DBS revalidation may be carried out as and when deemed necessary. Classes are held at Glenthorne High School in Sutton on Saturdays during term time from 10:30am to 12:50pm with a 20-minutes break at 11:30 am. On average, we have over 280 pupils in around 20 classes, but the number of students and classes may vary from year to year. Both streams start from beginner level through to GCSE and / or AS standards.
